Learners and enrollment

How learners enroll from your public page

Last updated

Every course that is enabled and public has an enrollment form, on its own page, and on your organization page alongside your other courses.

What the learner does

  1. Enters their email address. That is the only thing asked for.

  2. Receives a confirmation email.

  3. Clicks the link in it.

  4. The course starts.

No account, no password, no app. Nothing for them to remember afterwards, because everything arrives in their inbox.

Nothing happens until they confirm

Step three is not optional. A learner who fills in the form and never opens the confirmation email is not enrolled, and no lessons will arrive.

This is the answer to almost every "I signed up and got nothing" message you will receive. Ask them to check their spam folder before looking anywhere else.

The confirmation exists so nobody can sign somebody else up to your course. It is also what keeps your sending reputation intact, which is why every learner gets one.

If they are already enrolled

Submitting the form again does nothing and says so politely. They are not enrolled twice, and their progress is untouched.

If a newsletter is attached to the course

Learners can also be subscribed to one of your newsletters when they enroll.

The subscription is only confirmed when they confirm the enrollment. Verifying one proves the address for both, so nobody receives two confirmation emails for a single form.

The same form, on your own site

You are not limited to pages we host. There is an embeddable version of this form you can drop into your own website, a landing page, or anywhere you can paste a snippet of HTML - the learner never leaves your page, and the enrollment works exactly as described above, confirmation email and all.

When enrollment is refused

What the learner sees

Why

Sign-up is closed

Your organization has reached the number of learners your plan allows. The forms switch themselves off rather than accepting people you have no room for.

This address cannot be used

The address has been blocked - usually because mail to it has bounced repeatedly or it was reported as spam.

Nothing at all

The course is disabled, not public, or its organization is private. In each case the page itself is gone rather than showing a closed form.

Enrollments you create yourself

When you add a learner directly, or through an import or an integration, there is no confirmation step, or in some cases it is optional. you are vouching for the address, and the course starts straight away.

That is convenient and worth being careful with. A confirmation email is what stops somebody receiving a course they never asked for, so only add addresses you have a reason to believe want to hear from you.
